Student Engagement

Student engagement is essential to building a K-12 culinary culture. These resources provide opportunities for students and the community to participate in developing school menus and recipes. Conducting taste tests is an excellent opportunity to interact with students and a crucial step in gathering recipe feedback. The Student Chef competition allows students to learn about school meals while exploring the recipe development and ideation process. The resources support meaningful learning experiences that educate and empower students to participate in school meal programs.

Taste Test Resource

Taste testing provides opportunities to engage students in school nutrition programs while obtaining feedback on recipes and menu items. These activities support nutrition education by empowering students to try new foods and make informed food choices. The Taste Testing resource uses food literacy to guide conversations about food, connect cafeteria experiences to classroom curriculum, and reinforce communication skills to support positive classroom interactions.
